Once, far back in the 1980s a funny, happy and decorative dog breed arrived in Hungary,
its name: Berger de Brie
When we met this breed for the first time, it was for the first time in 35 years, love at first sight, and this love is still growing stronger.
After a long search, because of the restricted possibilities at that time, we finally found and bought our first Briard male, nicknamed SAMU, from a breeder in Czech-Slovakia.
We started being acquainted and to study this breed due to him.
I can tell you, that we were not disappointed at all, we are even more convinced that people who has already had Birards, will not be able to live without them anymore.
The Briards have an incredible character, they are happy, bohemian, but very clever, independent minded, absolutely focused on family with a very decorative appearance.
They are simply adorable, sometimes they are able to flip you out, but of course motivated by the best intentions.
I will never forget an add which I first saw on the French TV, and in which a Briard advertised a slight sedative.
It was rather appropriate and funny at the same time, the essence of which was that the family – mum, dad and children – left home and their Briard left alone in the house wanted to give the family joy and rearranged the furniture in the house and in the garden as well. He was waiting for the family proudly and cheerfully, but the family had a fit when seeing what had happened. The efficient solution was that next time due to the advertised sedative dad and mum were just smiling when facing the rearranged house, but the dog was much offended that his all day activity been neglected.
Well yes, they can give us lots of fun and annoying minutes too.
It is worth mentioning that everybody judging them based on solely their appearance will be more than surprised later on.
They are incredibly able to think independently, thus they always try to work their will.
They are trying to take the lead in the family, so we have to let them know steadily where their place is.
After all, it is not difficult to get on well with them, because – as they love their boss - they are just shrugging their shoulders and think to try everything later on and the show is going on.
They are able to enforce their self-esteem on a high level!
We know from experiences – based on examples – that if their self-esteem is offended they hardly forget about it or do not forget it never and ever and will not forgive to the end of their life.
They will never avenge themselves because of their natural intelligence and love for their owner, but they are able to show their absolute contempt…
They do not initiate any fight, but should they be insulted they accept challenges at once and not without any success.
They are real ‘pup sitters’, they like directing the puppies. Males highly respect females, they know well that they are preserving the breed.
Males are polite gallants of which females often take advantage.
What we are considering exemplary, based on our 35 years of experience with Briards, is the typical sheepdogs’ „pack like” structure and characteristics of the family, „spiced in the French style”.
To whom could I suggest to have this noble breed?!
To everybody who likes laughing, who like the everyday petty joys, jokes, immense love and an absolutely reliable companion, to whom you can unconditionally reckon at any time .
